Carpet cleaning

Carpet cleaning questions

How often should carpets be cleaned?

Most homes benefit from a deep clean every 12 to 18 months. With pets, young children or a busy household, every 6 to 12 months keeps them looking better for longer.

How long will my carpets take to dry?

We aim for 4–6 hours. On a warm, breezy day it can be an hour or two, or a little longer depending on how much work the carpets needed and what they are made of.

What must I consider after the clean?

We’ll give you a sheet on the day, but in short:

Mind your step. If you must walk on damp carpets, take care stepping onto smooth floors such as laminate or stone.

Wood and metal. Don’t put anything wooden or metal back on the carpet until it’s totally dry (plastic is fine). Wood can leave dye stains and metal can rust.

Air the room. Open windows and doors. Radiators on are fine if doors are left open.

Do I need to move my furniture?

We move small, easily handled items such as chairs, side tables and lamps. Larger pieces like beds, wardrobes and big sofas are normally cleaned around. It helps if ornaments, toys and anything fragile are off the floor before we arrive.

What do you need from me?

Very little. In most homes our van-mounted system needs nothing from you apart from access and somewhere to park near the property. Where the hoses can’t reach (some flats, for example) we use a portable machine, which needs hot water and electricity.

Will the stains come back?

Most won’t. Occasionally a spill that soaked deep into the backing can slowly wick back up as the carpet dries. If that happens within 7 days, tell us and we’ll come back and treat it free.

Some old stains have permanently changed the colour of the fibres. If we think that’s the case, we’ll tell you honestly on the day.

Will my carpets get dirty faster after cleaning?

Not after a proper clean. Cheap cleans can leave sticky detergent in the fibres, which attracts dirt. We rinse thoroughly so nothing is left behind to make them re-soil faster.

Is it safe for children and pets?

We choose professional products to suit your carpets and rinse thoroughly. We’ll tell you on the day when children and pets can use the room again.

Hot water extraction or dry cleaning?

Hot water extraction is our deepest clean, for heavily soiled, stained or tired carpets. It removes deeply embedded dirt while extracting most of the moisture.

Dry powder cleaning is a low-moisture option for lightly soiled carpets and routine maintenance.

Upholstery

Sofas, chairs and mattresses

Do you clean sofas, chairs and mattresses?

Yes. We clean sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and mattresses. Add them in the instant price calculator or see our upholstery cleaning page.

How long will upholstery take to dry?

Upholstery is full of absorbent filling, so in normal weather it can take 16–24 hours to dry fully. In summer, with good airflow, it’s more like 6–12 hours, which is why we recommend upholstery cleaning in the warmer months.
